Grand Traverse Bay – The Seaside Michigan Gem
Towards the northern shore of Michigan is the one and only Grand Traverse Bay. Closely located by our Jellystone Parks at Mears, Traverse City is only a couple hours away and will give you an opportunity to take the perfect day trip for you and your family. The Bay has something for everyone including shopping, boat tours, golfing, scuba diving, rail tours, fishing, rail tours and so much more.
Relaxing Beaches & Family Amenities
Visit any one of the beautiful Lake Michigan beaches in Traverse City, and enjoy the soft sandy beaches and cooled sloped shores of the Great Lake. Many of the beaches in the Traverse Bay are equipped with restrooms, charcoal grills and even shady areas but there are a few that contain unique features worth stopping through. The East Bay Park is located at the end of Front Street in Traverse City and comes standard with BBQ grills, shade and picnic areas, but this beach also has lifeguards which makes it ideal for families with small children. Power Island off of Bower’s Harbor is also another point of interest because you can only reach it by boat. Once you’ve gotten there, you’ll find hiking trails, and rest or picnic areas layered on the island.
Shopping Malls in Traverse City
Traverse City also has a very wide variety of shopping, including the Cherryland Center, Downtown Traverse City and the Grand Traverse Mall. The Cherryland center is perfect for those camping at one of our family campgrounds because it has practical stores to pick up supplies like Big K-Mart, Sears and the Dollar Zone as well as other fun and leisure stores. Downtown Traverse City is a very comfortable walk down aged yet maintained city streets where you will find unique boutiques, restaurants, trains and even a walk by the river. There’s always some kind of seasonal festival going on by the bay so make sure to check with the city to see what kinds of events will be going on while you’re visiting Traverse City.
Family Adventures in Michigan
Why not enjoy a little more outdoor entertainment on your Michigan family camping trip? Traverse City has a unique game that is played there called geocaching. Geocaching is a game where you seek after a location based on exact coordinates by plugging them into a GPS system to help you find them. You’ll never know what to expect while geocaching and if you win the competition you may find yourself the new owner of awesome prizes! You can also play other games with it such as hide-and-seek, pile on the pickle, or whatever you and your family come up with!
