Planning a family camping trip can be one of the best ways to spend time together. More than 40 million people went camping in 2013. This equates to 14 percent of the US population over the age of six. If you live in or around the beautiful state of Ohio, you can bet that many of those trips were completed in this great state. Whether you’re looking for fishing, hiking, boating, or an equestrian adventure, there are many great places to explore in Ohio!
It is important, however, that you and your family effectively plan for your camping trip to ensure a successful and fun time. Here are a few things that you should remember to do during your planning process.
Pick a date and stick to it
You don’t want to have to plan anything last-minute or drive all around town getting your supplies on the day of your trip since that’s not exactly a stress-free way to begin your family adventure. Make sure that you and your family sit down with all your schedules and calendars out, and select a weekend or week. If you can, all of you should select a few backup dates as well, just in case an emergency cancellation does happen during your initial camping date.
Make sure you have all the necessary equipment
Heading to the local sporting goods store and acquiring all the important camping items is an integral part of the planning and preparation process as well. Make sure you have a quality tent, enough sleeping bags, pillows, extra blankets, chairs, flashlights and batteries, bug spray, sunscreen, first-aid kits, and all the other camping equipment needed for a successful camping trip.
Have an idea of what you’re going to do for food
In addition to the actual camping equipment, you’re going to need plenty of food for your trip as well. If you’re going on a camping trip, especially with children, then it is a good idea to bring plenty of healthy snacks and foods that are fun and nutritious. Don’t forget the S’mores!
Make sure you sit down with your entire family during your camping planning process and work through every detail. You may want to plan your activities, which nearby local attractions to see, and of course meal planning! Then make your reservations to one of our outstanding Jellystone Park™ campgrounds in Ohio. You can bet this will be a great camping vacation the entire family will enjoy and remember for years to come.
